SuperGreen Solutions is an energy efficient products and solutions franchise. SuperGreen Solutions promotes itself as a One-Stop-Shop for all your energy efficiency needs. WordPress and The Amazon CloudFront Content Delivery Network

So, I recently transitioned part of my blog to the Amazon CloudFront Content Delivery Network. I have to say that latency has improved for my users thankfully.

So, whats a Content Delivery Network (CDN)? Well, basically its a service one can use to store and deploy the static content of their website. The Amazon CDN utilizes AmazonS3 for the storage facility. From there, the files stored are deployed to various edge servers. These edge servers are globally positioned, in strategic locations to provide fast access to all your S3 files.

For example, my server is located in Texas. Its a mid level server, nothing super exciting. Well, one the benefits of using a CDN… The server can process memory intensive functions, while the CDN handles deployment of the static content (stuff that doesn’t normally change). The biggest benefit, comes from the fact that if there is a user in London looking at my site, the files are cached on an edge server in London. So, its much faster than if that user had to wait for my server to push the data all the way over to them. Meanwhile, a user in Los Angeles will be accessing these files off a server much closer to them. Thus, improving each users experience.

Another great thing about the CDN… lets say that server in Los Angeles was having an issue. It would automatically send the user the content from the Palo Alto, CA server. So, there is a lot of redundancy of the content these servers are pushing out to the users. Im very happy so far with the speed of my site, and the fact that there is redundancy of these static files is great.

Deleting Users & Their Home Folder From Ubuntu Linux

So, looking to delete a user from Ubuntu linux?

Run the following command to delete the user:
sudo userdel username

Please note, deleting the user doesn’t delete their home folder. So you will need to decide if you want to retain it or delete it as well.

Run the following command to delete the users home folder:
sudo rm -r /home/username/

Cannot Scroll Up In Google Chrome Bug

Google Chrome Logo So, if you are using the most current Dev build of the Chrome Browser… Note that you may not be able to scroll UP the page with your mouse. Its a bug that was introduced to the this mornings update (12/10/2010). You can install the general release and all will be well again. Then flip back to the dev build once they release an update to the Dev Channel.

Update: Google pushed an update this morning to fix the scroll bug in the dev channel. (12/11/2010)

How To Enable Chrome Instant In The Omnibar – Mac Version

Today Google released Chrome 8 in the Dev Channel. The Mac version didn’t seem to get the Google Instant Omnibar feature by default. Never fear, here is how you add the feature…

How To Enable Chrome Instant In The Omnibar – Mac Version

First you need to make certain you are running the Dev Build of Chrome. **Warning: Think of this as an Alpha Version, and be caution as its a pre-beta build – i.e lots of bugs may be present** You have been warned.

Lets install the Chrome Dev Build First… (Skip if you are already on the dev channel)
1. I suggest backing up your Default profile for Google, this will enable you to downgrade to a more stable version later. Navigate to:
~/Library/Application Support/Google/Chrome

2. Zip/Compress the “Default” directory and save it somewhere safe.

3. Download & Install the Dev Channel Build of Chrome here.

4. Open Chrome and navigate to:
about:labs

5. Enable one of the experimental features.

6. Quit Chrome

7. Open Finder and navigate to:
~/Library/Application Support/Google/Chrome/Default

8. Open the “Preferences” file with a text editor (TextEdit/TextMate etc)

9. Find:
"enabled_labs_experiments": [

10. Add:
"match-preview",

For reference mine looks like this:
"enabled_labs_experiments": [ "expose-for-tabs", "match-preview",

11. Save the file, and relaunch Chrome.

Congrats your Omnibar now accesses Google Instant.

FYI, if you find that the Google Instant feature drives you bananas… Just do the same thing, but remove the “match-preview”, from the preference file.
